Estate planning is about two things: making sure the right people can step in to care for you if you cannot care for yourself, and making sure your wishes are honored when you are no longer here. It is not complicated by nature. Most people simply never had someone walk them through it in plain terms.
Provident Estate Planning was built for the people who have been meaning to get this done, but haven't because life keeps getting in the way. We handle the complexity. You make the decisions.

For years before Provident existed, Tia Hall Barnes kept hearing the same question from colleagues: do you know a good estate planning attorney? Her husband, a financial planner, and attorneys she knew in other practice areas were regularly asked for referrals. They wanted someone they trusted to send their clients to. After more than a decade of those conversations, she built the practice herself. Those same colleagues are now among her most consistent referral sources.
Tia is an estate planning attorney serving clients across North Carolina. By day, she works in development at a leading academic medical institution and serves on the boards of the Durham Libraries Foundation and B&D East. She built Provident around evening and weekend appointments because she knows firsthand that most people who need an estate plan cannot take a Tuesday afternoon off to get one.

Who Provident is Designed For
Provident Estate Planning is a fully virtual practice focused exclusively on estate planning document preparation. Every step of the process — consultation, questionnaire, document review, and signing preparation — is conducted online. This model is designed for clients who are comfortable with video calls and managing documents electronically.
Provident does not handle estate administration or heirs property matters, both of which require a different kind of representation. If your situation falls into either category, the North Carolina State Bar's Lawyer Referral Service and Legal Aid of North Carolina are both good starting points for finding the right help.
